I launched CRIMEMOIR STORE to distribute my audiobooks and eBooks

Fun fact: I was so impatient waiting for an audiobook distribution deal that failed miserably (and which cost me weeks of marketplace exposure) that I created a storefront on Shopify to sell the audiobook myself. It’s called CRIMEMOIR STORE, where the Chained Birds audiobook is available for the same marketplace price of $14.99 as elsewhere. (A great place to buy it if you want to support this author directly 😁)

Although I was initially annoyed about having to do this to make the audiobook available, I’m now glad I have a place to sell future audiobooks and eBooks. The mechanics work with Shopify’s front end, with its stellar sales interface, and Bookfunnel’s back end, where they send patrons an immediate download link and tech support if needed. I have found the Bookfunnel audiobook app on par with Audible’s, for what that’s worth.

Likewise, I’m impressed with the audiobook apps from Spotify, Google Play, and Kobo—three other places the Chained Birds audiobook can be found. Note that there’s no direct link for the audiobook on Kobo; patrons have to do a title search to find it.

(Once my eBook is out of Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited jail Oct. 29, the Chained Birds eBook will join the audiobook on CRIMEMOIR STORE.)

The eBook with color images goes “wide” after Oct. 29, 2025 … but for now it’s on Amazon

I’m currently locked into Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited (KU) until Oct. 29, 2025, which requires eBook exclusivity on that platform. I wanted to try KU, because my former publisher never put Chained Birds in that “free” eBook collection that Amazon Kindle Unlimited subscribers can read at no additional cost for their monthly $9.99 subscription fee. Under this pricing model, payment to authors and publishers is calculated on a page-read basis, and the advantage of joining KU is supposed to be increased exposure. Some authors make bank with this method … but so far, I’m not impressed with this KU experiment. So I’m pulling out at the end of October to make the eBook available on more platforms. I’ll link to those eBook retail pages below when they go live.

Please note that the eBook version is the ONLY new edition to show the new 20+ images in color … and at $9.99, it’s the best bang for your buck 😂

Only the “Author’s Cut” eBook edition of Chained Birds shows the new 20+ images in color. The eBook color images can be seen on a Kindle Colorsoft eReader and Kindle Fire tablets, or on any iPad, tablet, or smartphone via a Kindle app.

All images only appear in black and white in Paperback and Hardcover formats.

Paperback and Hardcover print copies can be found in the usual places: Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Bookshop.org, and the Ingram catalog for wholesale/bookstore purchase. It’s been a newbie publishing nightmare to get the two print versions uploaded to these various platforms and meet their cover specs. In the process of transferring the rights from my former publisher to me, I lost more than a handful of reviews on Amazon, where the old, discontinued Chained Birds edition with the wrong cover remains stubbornly linked to my new book versions and just won’t die. So it’s inadequate to say, “Go find the print versions on Amazon,” and that’s why I’ve included direct links in the table below.

So why bother with all these platforms and uploads and specs and anguish, you might wonder?

Because I can. Since I now control the rights to this award-winning debut book, I want to make it widely available, not just on Amazon and a few online bookstores like it was before.
